Peak Bouldering Guide wins Best Guidebook at Banff

I have a chance to bask in reflected glory here, as "the boys done good", by which I mean that Vertebrate's 2011 Peak District Bouldering guide has won the Best Guide Book category at Banff Mountain Festival 2011.

As I may have mentioned before, I have some photos in this book, including the shot of Scouse's crotch gracing the cover. But I refuse to take all the credit for them winning this award, no sir, it just wouldn't be right. Credit where its due and all that - I couldn't have done it without the shapely derrière of a certain balding Merseysider.

Seriously though its good to see this guide get some well deserved kudos, as John, Jon and Rupert put in a fair bit of graft on this one and it is a fantastic guide, and not to mention a labour of love. Not that a Vertebrate book picking up an award should come as much of a shock, as they have form for winning in Banff with Jerry's book, and have Boardman-Taskers coming out of their ears.

Importantly it also says a lot about guidebooks that have support at grassroots level. You can't just throw together a guide like this without passion, experience, local knowledge and input from the movers and shakers in the field. And not to forget the photography, because this book absolutely reeks of quality images throughout, which I think alone sets it apart from a lot of other guides.

Looks like John is going to be off to Banff to collect the medal - now that's one hell of a work jolly!
